Clutch Shaft
1973 Yamaha LT3 shifting...?
It won't shift into second only from neutral to 1st and depending on what gear you were in when you tightened the nut on the clutch shaft but behind the clutch, made a difference how far you could screw the nut in. what gear do I want to be in when I screw the nut on? Does this sound right?

Did you disassemble the transmission, or just the clutch?
You might have a shift dog out of place if you disassembled the tranny.
If not, disassemble the clutch again and place tranny in neutral and reassemble the clutch.
You do have a manual, right?
