Farmall Model H wont start?
I have a model H tractor. I used it one day for working around the house and when i was done i decided to hose the dirt off of it. Got back on it to start it up and it would turn over and nothing would happen. I figured the points were probably wet so i let it go to dry for the weekend before putting it away. Came back a couple days later to start it back up and instead it wouldnt even turn over. Put new wires and even a new foot switch on it to try to correct the problem, stil nothing. When i hit the foot switch the amp meter goes down and nothing happens but the ground cable on the battery becomes hot. The battery is new and is fully charged. Think possibly the starter is blown but dont know for sure. Before i buy a new one i would really appreciate it if someone could confirm it is perhaps the starter or something else. Any help would greatly be appreciated
ground cable seems to be good. Aftermarket one was installed.
Try loosening the bolts that mount the starter to the engine.
8 to 10 full turns each. or remove the starter completely and reinstall it. Sound to me like your starter is "stuck" meaning the starter bendix is jammed against the flywheel. A semi common occurrence on the old Farmall tractors.
Another way to unstick the starter is to put the tractor in 5th and rock it back and forth by hand. WITH THE IGNITION OFF.
