Red Tractor
Does the red tractor logo on foods mean that the food was produced/ grown in the UK?
Trying to buy more British and wondered if this meant uk produced or just produced anywhere and to uk standards?
First - I'll directly answer your question: Yes, it means that the food was produced in the UK.
It's worth remembering a couple of points though:
1) Without the Red Tractor - just because a product is labelled as "British", doesn't mean that it actually is. It only means that some part of the processing was done in the UK. That could be that it was packaged in the UK, but the crops grown, or animal reared & slaughtered abroad.
2) Just because a product has the Red Tractor doesn't necessarily mean it's any good. Don't get me wrong - we have some superb food grown on our island, but we're perfectly capable of producing mass produced, morally questionable crap too. Just because it's British, doesn't mean it's *necessarily* any good.
Want to support local farmers? Try your local farmers' market or farm shop. It'll almost certainly be far, far better than anything you'll find in the supermarket. AND it'll have been produced locally.
